Greetings, and welcome to my studio! I’m thrilled by your interest in private lessons, and I look forward to helping you cultivate your unique, musical voice and bring it to full fruition!
I offer private, one-on-one music instruction with specializations in piano and voice for students of all ages, and each lesson includes practical and theoretical learning. In our time together, we will study instrumental technique, notation, aural skills, music theory fundamentals, performance ability, and repertoire development. Genres of focus may include classical, pop, rock, jazz, folk, and musical theater. Lessons may be conducted virtually or in-person at my home studio in Auburn, WA.
Depending upon student interest, other specializations may include songwriting, audition prep, improvisation, foreign language diction, and beginning composition for visual media. Each lesson is personalized to your individual interests and goals. I believe that learning can and should be enjoyable! I also believe that a good lesson includes psychology and listening, and I promise to make every effort to work with your individual learning style.
Academic Term: September - May
During the school year, lessons are based on an all-inclusive, flat-rate monthly tuition to cover actual lesson time, lesson planning, administrative work, studio upkeep, supplemental materials and activities, professional development, and management software fees. This monthly tuition is based on an academic calendar of 36 teaching weeks from September through May. Thus, regardless of the number of total lesson days of a particular month, monthly tuition will be the same amount during this academic term.
Weekly 30 minute lessons - $160/mo. per student
Weekly 60 minute lessons - $320/mo. per student
Summer Term: June – August
In order to better accommodate vacation schedules, lessons during the summer are scheduled based upon mutually agreed dates and times. Tuition is still charged monthly but will be prorated according to the agreed dates at $40 per 30 minute lesson and $80 per 60 minute lesson.
Lessons will be invoiced and tuition is due on the 28th of each month for the lessons scheduled the following month. Payments made after 7 days of the initial due date for the lesson month will incur a $25 late fee and lessons may be suspended until payment is received. If a student enrolls in lessons during the middle of the month, tuition will be prorated according to the number of scheduled lessons for that month at $40 per weekly 30 minute lesson or $80 per weekly 60 minute lesson, and payment will be due immediately.
Payments can be given in the form of cash, check, Venmo, or Zelle. Receipts will always be given after payment has been received.
Holidays (2023 – 2024)
In accordance to local school districts, my studio observes the following holidays and there will be no scheduled lessons on these dates:
Make-ups
Tuition guarantees your lesson time and, thus, there will be no make-ups for lessons missed by the student. In the event of sickness or inclement weather that makes coming to the studio difficult, a virtual lesson will be offered. In the case of a pre-planned absence, you may send over a video recording of your practice. I will review it during our normal lesson time and provide feedback and instruction on new assignments for that week. In the event of instructor absence, a make-up lesson or lesson credit will be offered.
Withdrawals/Prolonged Absences
Lessons are month-to-month and may be discontinued with written notice at least 2 weeks prior to the month of cancellation in order to stop payments for that following month. Lessons already paid for in the month of cancellation will not be refunded.
If a student needs to take a prolonged absence with the intent to return to lessons at a future date, please understand that the original lesson day and time may not be available. If you would like to reserve this preferred day and time, you may continue paying tuition to hold the lesson schedule until the student returns.
Please arrive on time for your lesson and prepared with necessary books and materials. Students must purchase their own lessons books, and we will decide together which curriculum will best serve your interests and goals!
Your lessons are a personal investment and it is expected that you take the time to practice your instrument on your own to make purposeful progression. We will work together to create a practice schedule that fits your lifestyle and goals.
Our lessons are a collaborative endeavor, and I want to make every effort to ensure you are challenged and motivated accurately towards your personal, musical goals!
I have been a music educator for over 15 years in both classroom and private settings. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Central Washington University, a certificate in Recording Technology from Citrus College, and a Graduate Diploma in Film and Game Scoring from the European Academy of Fine Arts. My undergrad training included private and group vocal study under Professor Mia Spencer, Dr. Gayla Blaisdell, Dr. Melissa Schiel, and Professor Vijay Singh. Upon graduation, I continued to take private lessons with Professor Singh with a specific focus on jazz piano training. My performance experiences range from participation in university choirs and ensembles (including women's choir, vocal jazz, and an a cappella student group) to community worship groups, freelance musician gigs, and solo artist shows.
I moved back to the Seattle area after living in Los Angeles for four years. During my time in LA, I grew my experiences and training in audio engineering and music production, and I had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate on composing projects for Signature Kitchen Suite and an NFT with the Harlem Globetrotters. I also enjoyed singing, playing keys, recording and composing, and touring nationally with the urban folk band Welcome Home. Some of the more notable shows played together have included Rocketown in Nashville, TN, and SXSW in 2019. Though we are cities apart now, we continue to collaborate and make music together!
I continue to stay active as a solo artist as well. In May 2020, I released my first single “Just Be” and then two more singles in November 2020 and February 2021. In May 2021, I released my self-titled debut EP “Ashlyn Nicole.” I am currently working on my next solo project with an anticipated release date in 2024-2025. Additionally, I continue to work as as a freelance composer and sound designer. To hear some of my music and stay updated on my latest projects, feel free to check out my artist website.
When not doing music, I enjoy hiking and traveling with my husband, playing strategy board games, and fellowshipping with friends over a good meal!
